Bangkok, 25 September 2025 — During a meeting at the Embassy of Romania in the Kingdom of Thailand, Marius Alexa, CEO of Arhipelago, and H.E. Ambassador Daniela-Brîndușa Băzăvan agreed to advance Romanian–Thai cooperation by organizing a new Afaceri.ro trade mission to Bangkok, updating the Business Orientation Guide to Thailand for Romanian entrepreneurs, and leveraging the openness of Thai academia for partnerships with Romania.
The decision builds on the positive momentum in EU–Thailand dialogue, the resumption of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and the entry into operation of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA), which together create a framework for research, education, and SME internationalization. The economic context indicates clear potential for growth in Romanian exports: recent trade flows show roughly USD 291 million in Thailand’s exports to Romania and about USD 102 million in Romania’s exports to Thailand, within a Thai market integrated into global value chains with total annual exports around USD 300 billion. High-traction verticals for collaboration and B2B include electronics/EMS, processed agro-food, construction materials, and med-tech, where the technical compatibility and scalability of Romanian firms can provide competitive advantages.
The trade mission will support Romanian SMEs through targeted B2B meetings and market-access briefings, with a focus on rules of origin, conformity assessment and labelling, testing and certification pathways, distribution channels, and after-sales services. In parallel, the Business Orientation Guide to Thailand will be updated to provide operational market-entry steps, technical compliance (TBT) good practices, model contracts, and concise case studies, accompanied by checklists for preparing commercial files and technical documentation. On the academic side, partners will develop micro-modules in entrepreneurship education, guest lectures, student exchanges, and clinics for university startups with Bangkok universities—bridges for knowledge transfer and market-oriented proof-of-concept projects.
“Romania has agile, innovative companies capable of performing in a sophisticated market like Thailand. Together with the Embassy, we are prioritizing practical SME readiness—from rules of origin and labelling to real matchmaking—and an academic bridge that supports knowledge transfer and talent development,” said Marius Alexa, CEO of Arhipelago.
Arhipelago will soon announce the mission calendar, the release of a draft guide for public consultation, and the steps to initiate university collaborations. Companies and institutions interested in participating can contact the Afaceri.ro team for registration and project proposals.
